Time to say goodbye - the last post

There comes a time when many blogs run their course and close down. Such is the case with the co-op. So after 997 posts and almost 1.7 million visitors, it's time to say goodbye and move on.

I started this blog way back in 2008 when accurate information about sustainable living, written by people who were actually doing it, was not commonly available. I'm happy to say we were one of the leaders in this type of blogging and now there are many fine blogs written by permaculturalists, biodynamic farmers and people living sustainably in their own homes. There is more information now and many more people living this way.

I want to thank the people who kept this co-op going - all the writers we've had over the years, Sharon, who did up a writers' roster and kept us all in line and on track, and you, the readers. Without you there would have been no reason to write. The current group of writers are listed on the side bar with a link to their blogs. I thank them all sincerely for the time and effort they put in here.

One of the writers, Amanda, asked to say her own goodbye:
“My time writing for the co-op blog has only been brief but the experience has been an honour. It has been lovely to meet new readers, write alongside some inspiring voices in the simple living movement and share snippets from my own life. I am saddened that I will no longer be participating here, but I am pleased that the community can continue to use this blog as a wonderful reference for living simply. Thank you dear Rhonda, for inviting me to share in this inspirational space and I wish everyone a wonderful life filled with simple pleasures.”

I wish you the best in your own journey towards a more sustainable future. Even though there will be no more posts here, the blog will remain accessible so you can continue to read here and take as much as possible from the practical and inspiring information here.

Thank you all for your support and for being part of an incredible community.

Rhonda Hetzel.

I'm so sorry to see this blog shut down. It's been a great source of information and inspiration. A great strength of the blog has been the bringing together of content from people all doing sustainable living in their own, different ways.

I wish all the contributors the best for future projects, and I'll continue following many of you on individual blogs.

Oh! It's a shame but I understand. I have this site to thank for introducing me to a number of great blogs, as well as plenty of great ideas, even though I've only been reading maybe a year. Thanks for all the inspiration!

Yes, please don't delete the blog. I've gone back several times to look something up, and I will miss the new posts. But I do understand. Life moves on, and so must we.

I have loved coming here and found it inspirational. It has encouraged me to think that maybe I do manage to achieve a bit of simple green frugal life even though I have never made a big thing about it . Rather than seeking it intentionally it is more that you can live a good life on a low income if you think differently about it.
thanks for sharing

Too sad; I've greatly enjoyed reading the content. I've had a Google alert on the name of one of my sites, www.the-green-frugal.com, so of course I never missed an update on your site. I always welcome relevant content at my site if any writers would like to continue to post. Thanks for your service!

I don't know why but this song just sprang into my mind on reading the final blog -

And so it is
Just like you said it would be
Life goes easy on me
Most of the time
And so it is
The shorter story
No love, no glory
No hero in her skies

I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes...

And so it is
Just like you said it should be
We'll both forget the breeze
Most of the time
And so it is
The colder water
The blower's daughter
The pupil in denial

I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off you...
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind...
My mind...my mind...
'Til I find somebody new

i'll miss this blog and all the great contributions and to paraphrase Gavin - hope you enjoy your fish. Dai stiho

I think this is really sad and also a wrong decision tbh.

Could you not keep the blog going with other people "in charge"?

I understand your ( Rhonda's) reasons - but it seems such a shame to lose the archive.

I only have found this blog last year and immediately put it on my reading list. I'm still behind with reading all the articles and it is invaluable resource of information for my work. Will the articles be still available after you shut the blog down?
Otherwise I have to save it for myself for offline reading. Thank you for your excellent blog and wish you the best.

Thanks for all the hard work! I've been reading for a long, long time, I just have never commented. I appreciate the collective knowledge and support this site has offered to those of us trying to swim upstream in a consumer culture.

SO sorry to see you go! You were one of the first blogs I began following when we began our farming adventure almost four years ago. I'll miss you. Thank you for all your hard work through the years!

I too, have only just discovered your wonderful and informative blog a few months ago. I'm glad to see that you will be keeping it open to readers. With 997 posts there will be much wisdom and inspiration to be found. I know I will be coming back here time and time a again in the future.

All the best with your new ventures.

What a shame that such a good blog has come to an end. I shall miss it badly. It would be great if the co-operative spirit continued with the revival of the blog???
Thank you for inspiring me. Floss

I too have been reading the blog just a year or so, and find it to be some of the best inspiration on the web, for making slow but steady changes in our lifestyle.

Please RECONSIDER ending the blog... perhaps reorganize, shift, adjust... but, it is an exceptional resource and does a great deal to support like minded individuals.

And thank you very much for your efforts.

Please don't delete the archive! I recently went though the archive to find out more about canning and preservation. I've also looked up composting and using a coldframe. The practical, hands-on information in this blog is not duplicated elsewhere!
